An actor is forever getting rejected, never knowing why, simply not wanted.

......the task of doing reading is a terrifying one. It's not the same as performing. It's a different skill the actor must acquire.

They are to guide an actor to his feelings.

There is little else an actor can use as source material in a reading but his own emotional life.

Most people go into acting to get out of themselves, to get away from their everyday humdrum selves and become someone else who is glamorous, romantic, unusual, different.
